Satu, Dua, tigé

A few months ago, a friend of mine joined Masterchef Malaysia. Having known her for more than 17 years, I wouldn't be surprised at her move to cook (and compete) on the small screen because not only is she a wonderful cook, she's also very passionate at what she does. Out of all 24 contestants, she lasted 'til the top six. Wow! Am really proud that she managed to not only prove that she is a wonderful cook (her dishes are not only very, very delicious, it's filled with passion and love), she also convinced the judges that she deserves her spot in Masterchef Malaysia and she persevered despite having to compete under extremely stressful circumstances. 

This is us, off for a mini getaway to Sematan, Lundu in 2008.

Since the show (which ended a couple of months ago) she and her two pals in Masterchef Malaysia, Brian and Ezani have partnered up to create tigé, an establishment that aims to feature a collage of their favorite foods, recipes and paraphernalia.

Promotions! Promotions!

In this day and age, don't you feel like you're being bombarded with promotions and adverts? There's so many people selling stuff that you don't know what you want anymore. Going shopping is looking like; there's a sale, let's go there and splurge on something, anything, as long as it's on sale *yikes*.

Anyhow, since I've been officially appointed as the consultant for Abiey salon, I've been cooking up a few promotions that I think people would like. The first one was the CNY promotion, which is doing very, very well I must say so myself. So far, we have an average of at the minimum one or two customers coming in and asking for the promotion *hurrah* (smug pat on the back).

I've come up with another two promotions. let's see if you like these two:

A CNY makeover! Who would love to be pretty, hot and tempting (PHAT) right? I always love dressing up and there's not that many occasions for us to do that. So, why not treat yourself to a makeover do and we'll turn you into the super hot lady that you truly are. After all, the best time to be properly glammed up is during the festive season. It's easier to meet and make an impression with the blokes too =).

Our Make Up Packages for 2012. The prices are valid for this year's booking. We provide make up and hair do services to all ladies for various functions (i.e. dinner parties, engagements, weddings etc etc). A bloke commented, why the different prices, after all, it's basically almost the same thing; hair and make up. Now, let me explain. A dinner make up and hair do is usually very light and therefore, less make up and simpler do, thus cheapest of them all. An engagement make up and hair do has to be slightly thicker (because most engagements nowadays include photo shoots and engagement dais; being under the spot lights and such), thus more prep is needed to ensure that you'll look picture perfect for your engagements. Some couples even have outdoor photo shoots for their make up! A solemnization and wedding dinner make up needs more preparation and as I've explained, making sure that your make up is picture perfect and your 'do stays in place for at least four hours is no easy feat! Thus, slightly more expensive in price. Oh, I almost forgot, other than the dinner make up and 'do, all other packages include falsies (read: false eyelashes).

The salon only offer hair and make up. Some might ask, do we offer bridal gowns and such? So far, no. Besides, most brides-to-be prefer custom made one-of-a-kind dresses, so why not make the dress that you've always dreamed off and let is do your face paint and do' =).

Oh, I almost forgot, the make up that will be used is a combo of Stage, The Office and Elianto.

To being beautiful, inside and outside; and against overpriced wedding vendors (no bride should be overcharged for their weddings, really).

No More Bad Hair Days

I've been very, very busy the past weekend; sourcing for hairdressers, hair products, brainstorming sessions and designing advertisements. So, back to the consulting business, *drumroll please* I am currently managing what I would call a turnaround project on my mum's salon. Hairdressing salon, to be exact. I've appointed myself as the turnaround manager, and also proposed my plan (and marketing strategy) to make sure that in three months, the salon would double its sales. All those business undergraduate courses and experience as a marketing manager at my dad's college would certainly be handy, now wouldn't it? Anyways, I am very, very excited at the prospect. Why? You might ask? Well... The thing is, I don't know a single thing about managing salons and this would mean that I'm starting at the very bottom, which is the most interesting part. And, for another thing, I'd be helping out my sister in law to jumpstart her make up and bridal business. That'd be a win-win situation, don't you think?

So, a bit of info on the salon. It's called Abiey Salon (based on my sis-in-law's name). It's located right next to JnJ Cafeteria in Jalan Stutong (near Tabuan Jaya area). Currently the salon is sharing its space with a reload center (owned by my brother). I think most people have been or at least know of JnJ but maybe haven't yet heard of Abiey Salon. Well, I'll soon take care of that. I have plans to make it more prominent in the future. But, I certainly won't disclose my plans yet.

I'm planning minor changes (i.e. rearranging of furniture, new coat of paint etc. etc) in this coming three months and if all goes as planned, I'm going to look forward to some major renovation by the middle of this year. That's why I think I am so going to love this year. I am the kind of person that looks forward to change and I'm hoping that this year, the change will be a good one *amin*.

So, watch out my blog for more future interesting promotions. The ladies will certainly like the promotion that I have in mind for the month of February 2012 *ooh la la*.

For Rent No More

I am happy to announce that my house is for rent no more. I went down to the house this morning for some clean-up then passed the house keys to my new tenant.

Phewww!

I breathed a huge sigh of relief. That means there'll be someone to look after my house again *yeay*. The new tenant is moving in tomorrow. Although after a closer look the house seems to need more face-lift that I thought it would but I am not worried but the face-lift. A happy tenant is what I'm looking for *wink*.

So these are the improvements that I'm looking to implement by next week:

1. New paint job (both inside and outside the house; inclusive of fences)

2. Cementing the surface of my fence. My neighbor had kindly put up a brick fence to replace the original wire fence and since I have yet to cement my side of the fence, I'm thinking of getting it settled by next week.

3. Changing the door knobs and locks. I am not saying that I do not trust my previous tenant, but it's good to be on the safe side by changing all the locks. You never know whether your tenant still has a spare key to the house or not.

4. Replacing new taps to some old and broken ones (that my old tenant have overlooked to replace; and good tenants are not easy to find).

5. Adding some plants and shrubs to brighten up the lawn. My previous tenant unfortunately left the grass to grow to its full glory that it made the lawn looking absolutely hideous.

As you can see, it ain't easy being a landlord. Fortunately for me, the house is still in a very good condition except for the minor children's drawing on the walls; once we have it painted over, it'll look absolutely great, if not better than before.

Will post before and after pics once my mini-renovation project is done *can't wait!*

For Rent

If you must know, my house is now available for rent.

Oops, I never mentioned that I have a house didn't I? Well, I do. I've had it since a few years back and since I've bought it, it has been rented. I've never really thought on staying there though. The comforts of my own home (family home, that is) is too good for me to move out on *cheeky grin*.


Previously it has been rented by a small family for almost three years. A few weeks ago, my tenant called up to say they're moving. So peeps, my house is available for rent, and should anyone be interested, these are the details of the house:


Single-storey terrace corner, three bedroom with one toilet and a shower room. Location: Taman Samarindah, Kota Samarahan (entrance via the road to Serian, if you're from Bulatan Datuk Mohd Musa). It's about 2 minutes drive to UNIMAS and 5 minutes drive to UiTM. The car porch can comfortably fit one car. And this is how it looks like:





There's huge space by the side of the house (it is a corner house) for kids to run about. The interior of the house is very cool (despite the humid weather that we're prone to experiencing). This I know because when I first bought the house, I had to stay all day at the house to supervise the grillwork being done on the house. The neighbor to the right is Uncle Roland. The one to the left, I am unsure of the name though. When I bought the house, they haven't moved in yet. I think it's important to know thy neighbors. They'll be the first to alert you should there be any mischievous looking people lurking around (just in case).


Will be doing a lil' renovation (to spruce up the fences) in May so the house should be habitable by June. So, if anyone's interested, I can be contacted at fareiny@yahoo.com.
